Local Euro-MP Bill Newton Dunn was today won over by the message of Sir Paul McCartney, during the star's extraordinary visit to the European Parliament. The famous vegetarian urged Parliamentarians and guests to sign up to his "Meat Free Monday" campaign. The campaign argues that cutting down on meat consumption even once a week is a simple but effective way for people to reduce their carbon footprints, since livestock rearing emits such a great amount of greenhouse gases.

East Midlands Lib Dem MEP Bill Newton Dunn has welcomed the deal reached last night by the European Parliament and Council on the Telecoms package. After long negotiations the Council gave in to Parliament's demands to guarantee Internet users who are suspected of uploading or downloading illegal material a "prior, fair and impartial procedure".

Newark Lib Dems celebrated the 200th anniversary of Gladstone's birth at a special meeting in Newark Town Hall on Sunday, October 11th. A packed room listened intently to a talk on Gladstone's early career by Dr Richard Gaunt of Nottingham University, including Gladstone's election at Newark in 1832.
